Description
Fear of the Dark is the ninth studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released in 1992, and was their last album to feature vocalist Bruce Dickinson until his return in 1999. The album was a commercial success, reaching number one in the UK Albums Chart and selling over two million copies worldwide.
Musically, the album is a more experimental and progressive effort than its predecessor, No Prayer for the Dying, incorporating elements of thrash metal, power ballads, and even flamenco. Lyrically, the album deals with themes of fear, darkness, and death.
The album cover was the first not to be designed by the band's long-time artist, Derek Riggs. Instead, the cover was designed by Melvyn Grant, and features Eddie, the band's mascot, as a Nosferatu-like tree figure leering at the moon.
Fear of the Dark is considered to be one of Iron Maiden's most important and influential albums. It has been praised for its dark and heavy sound, innovative songwriting, and powerful performances. The album has also been credited with helping to revive the popularity of heavy metal in the early 1990s.
