Description
Full House is a live album by American jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, recorded in 1962 and released on the Riverside label. The album features Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio (pianist Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb), plus tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin.
Full House is considered one of Montgomery's finest albums, and is a classic example of his unique playing style. Montgomery's guitar playing is characterized by its warmth, clarity, and melodicism. He was also a master of the "thumb-over" technique, which allows the guitarist to play three notes at a time with one hand.
The album opens with the title track, a swinging blues composition by Montgomery himself. The song features a great solo by Griffin, as well as a soaring melody from Montgomery. The next track, "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," is a beautiful ballad from the Broadway musical My Fair Lady. Montgomery's playing on this track is particularly sensitive and lyrical. "Cariba" is a Latin-flavored tune with a catchy melody. "S.O.S." is a blues-based composition with a dramatic melody.
Full House is a must-have album for any fan of Wes Montgomery or jazz guitar. It is a classic example of Montgomery's unique playing style and his mastery of the instrument.
